22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a in-person tour of the program A renewal inspection was initiated on 1/24/22 and concluded on 1/26/22. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 107 children present and 21 staff. The inspector emailed the director/provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records, along with any requested program records submitted by the facility to determine if required documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on a review of the medication being stored at the center, it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that when an authorization expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization.

Evidence:
1. The medication authorization for child #7 was expired, but the medication was still at the center.
2. The medication authorization for child #8 was expired, but the medication was still at the center.
3, Staff #6 confirmed that the medication for child #7 and child #8 had been present in the center for more than 14 days since the expiration of the written authorization.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: The medication will be returned to the parent. We will ensure that when any medication authorization expires we return the medication to the parent within the required time frame.
