Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed the ages to be served and equipment required for infants.
The provider has opted not to include children under 12 months of age in her program and license unless or until she purchases a crib (or cribs) for their sleeping space.
A modification of the license may be requested when or if the provider decides to enroll infants younger than 12 months in the future.

Also discussed the diapering pad for the diapering table - it should be secured when in use so as not to slip or slide when the changing table is being utilized. A diapering pad may be used on the floor if diapering is required prior to making this adjustment.

Certain items should be reviewed to ensure that they are still practical at the family day home's current location. Please review and sign / date when changes or updates are made to the plan.

The provider is not currently transporting children in a vehicle. However, requirements were discussed and reviewed, as the provider does intend to offer outings or field trips at a later time.

Comments:
An Initial Monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 9/2/2022. At the time of the inspector's arrival, there were 3 children present, ranging in ages from 2 years to 5 years old, with the provider supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records and 4 Household Member and Caregiver records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-C
Description: Based on observation and interview, the children in care have access to stairs with three or more risers that do not have protective barriers or guardrails on each side.
Evidence:
There were three children in care during the inspection, ages 2 years to 5 years old.
The primary area where children are cared for has a set of three steps with three risers which leads to the restroom and eating area that children utilize while in care.
The steps are open on each side, with no protective barriers or guardrails on each side.

Plan of Correction: The provider stated that she will install guardrails on each side of the steps within 10 days.
