A complaint inspection was initiated on November 28, 2022 and concluded on December 8, 2022. There were no children present as building is closed and program is not operating. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration and physical plant. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on observation, review and interview, facility did not ensure reports are filed with the department as soon as practicable but not to exceed one business day when circumstances suspend or terminate all child care services for more than 24 hours as a result of an emergency situation.
Evidence: November 21, 2022, at approximately 8:00 am, 4 staff were present with approximately 13 children. When a staff member went outside to meet the bus, staff member could smell an odd odor. When staff member looked around the exterior of the building, he could see smoke coming out of a vent from the attic. Children and staff were evacuated and 911 was called. Emergency personnel determined there were sparks coming from electrical wiring in the attic and a small fire had started. The building was deemed by the fire official to be unsafe for human occupancy or use. Notice on the front door of the building states ?It is unlawful for any persons to use or occupy this building? and dated 11/21/2022. The department was notified of the incident by a local public agency on 11/28/2022. The facility did not notify the department of the suspension of child care services. Information was provided and confirmed by the facility owner on 11/28/2022.
