Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on May 20, 2021 and concluded on May 20, 2021. The program director was contacted by video call to initiate the virtual inspection. There were twenty-five children present with eight staff. As many as twenty-six children have attended the two day session during the first part of the week. The inspector emailed the program director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed three records for children and four staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined there were non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider the COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1721.1-A
Description: Based on a review of background checks for business entity representatives, and an interview with administrative staff, the center failed to obtain all required background checks every five years. Evidence: The Virginia abuse and neglect central registry search information for BE 3 obtained on January 6, 2016 was not updated until March 31, 2021.

Plan of Correction: Administrative staff will maintain copies of background check records at the center office. The center administrative staff will assist staff at the main office with tracking the need to obtain updated background checks. Arrangements will be made with business entity representatives in advance of the need to obtain information every five years so that the records are updated on time.
