Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 11:00am to approximately 12:30pm. During this inspection, there were 8 children in care in the care of two caregivers. The children were observed playing outside and in the designated areas of the home. They were observed interacting with peers, playing with age appropriate toys, eating and resting. The areas of childcare, kitchen, the indoor and outdoor play areas were inspected. The caregivers were observed having positive interactions with the children. The required postings were reviewed and found to be in compliance. The first aid kit and emergency supplies, daily attendance, and emergency drills were reviewed. Five children's records and three caregivers' records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on a review of the emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place drill log and interview, the provider did not maintain the required documentation.
Evidence: 1) The last documented evacuation drill was on 06/22/22. 2) During interview, Caregiver #1 reported the drills were practiced in July and August, but they were not documented as required.
Plan of Correction:
Moving forward all practice drills will be documented each month with the required information.
Standard #:
8VAC20-800-60-B
Description:
Based on a review of five children's records and interview, the provider did not ensure one child's record contained the required information.
Evidence: 1) The record for Child #4, date of attendance 09/06/22, did not contain the address for the second emergency contact listed. 2) During interview, Caregiver #1 confirmed the record for Child #4 did not have the address for the second emergency contact listed. Each child record should contain the name, address and telephone number of two designated persons to contact in case of an emergency if the parent cannot be reached.
Plan of Correction:
Provider obtained missing information while the inspector was on site. Moving forward, all information will be obtained at the time of enrollment.
