Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, March 28, 2023. The inspector was on site from approximately 10:30 am until 1:10 pm. There were six children present with two caregivers supervising for a value of 12 points. Children were observed playing in centers with blocks, doll house and painting an Easter art project. Later children listened to a story before napping. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of seven child records, two caregiver records, and two household member records were reviewed. The inspectors interacted with the provider and children in care. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector.

Based on observation, the provider did not ensure al areas of the home, inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence;
The stairwell leading down from the deck to the backyard has one wooden step that is cracked length wise across the top and leans forward when stepped on posing a tripping hazard. The stairs are used by children in care to get to the backyard.
Plan of Correction:
Per the provider: I will have my husband repair the step.
Standard #:
8VAC20-800-430-A
Description:
Based on observation and review of children?s records, the provider did not ensure children under two years of age did not have access to stairs.
Evidence:
Child #6, 21 months in age, was in attendance on March 28, 2023. The stairs leading to the second floor did not have a gate or barrier that would prevent access to the stairs by children in care who were under two years of age.
Plan of Correction:
Per the provider: I will install a gate at the bottom of the stairs.
