Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on May 21, 2021 and concluded on May 21, 2021. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were six children present and two caregivers. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed two children?s records and two caregiver records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-700-C
Description: Based on review of medication authorizations and interview, the provider did not ensure when an authorization for medication expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization. Medications that are not picked up by the parent within 14 days shall be taken to a pharmacy for proper disposal.

Evidence:

1. The parent's written medication authorization for child #3, expired January 22, 2021. The medication was viewed still on site, exceeding 14 days from the date the authorization expired.
2. The provider stated the medication was on site.

Plan of Correction: Per the provider: I will return the medication today at pick up and ask the parent to update the medication authorization with a physician's authorization and signature to keep the medication long term going forward.
