Comments:
An unannounced on-site renewal inspection was conducted on 11/22/2021. There were 6 children, ages 8 months-2 years, and 5 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: free choice activities, large motor play outside, and painting. A total of 2 children?s records and 2 staff records, were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with staff: attendance requirements, playground safety.

New requirements became effective on October 13, 2021 and the program has met all the new requirements.

Information gathered during the renewal inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and are documented on the violation noticed issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation of the infant room, the center failed to ensure that all chemicals were locked.

Evidence:

1. In the infant room there were four spray bottles of chemicals sitting on a high shelf. Two were on the side of the sink and two were on the side with the diaper changing table. All four spray containers were inaccessible to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: During the inspection the staff locked the chemicals and will only bring them out when using them for diapering and when cleaning and sanitizing the tables.

Description: Based on observation of the first aid kit, the center failed to ensure that all medications were locked.

Evidence:
1. Observed stored in the first aid kit that was located in the staff area was several prepackaged medications that came with the first aid kit. The first aid kit was not accessible to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: During the inspection staff removed the medication from the first aid box and placed them in a locked medication box. All prepackaged first aid kits will be checked prior to being used in the facility.
