Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an announced mandated initial inspection from 9:50 a.m. until 11:10. No children were in care; the director was present. This head start has relocated to this new site which is on the grounds of an elementary school in a modular unit. The center was inspected both inside and outside. Infants, toddlers and preschool age children will be served at this site in three classrooms. The center is well-equipped inside with age appropriate toys, books, and activities. There is new playground equipment on the fenced playground. The center had all the required emergency supplies and information.
All areas of the standards were reviewed but compliance for some standards could not be determined because the center is not fully operational.
New requirements became effective on 10/13/21. The facility has not fully complied with the following requirement; 8VAC20-780-240: The following needs to be included in orientation prior to the staff member working alone with children and no later than seven days of the date of assuming job responsibilities: Prevention of sudden infant death syndrome and use of safe sleep practices; Prevention of shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma, including procedure to cope with crying babies or distraught children. Prevention of and response to emergencies due to food and other allergic reactions including: a. Recognizing the symptoms of an allergic reaction b. Responding to allergic reaction. The facility is to review the new requirements and work with their assigned inspector to ensure future compliance.
The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were issued.
