Comments:
An unannounced, non-mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on 8/2/2022. Requirements of the Health and Safety checklist were reviewed. No children under the age of 13 have yet been enrolled or in care. Provider was reminded that all required postings are to be hung even though no children have yet been in care.

Violations of the health and safety checklist were cited and appear on the violation notice. Violations and plans of correction were discussed with the provider during the exit review.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-180-2-A
Description: Based upon observation, the provider has not ensured that the outdoor play area in free open and obvious hazards.
Evidence:
1. There were cleaning chemicals in spray bottles on the ground in the back yard.
2. There was a drink can and other litter on the ground in the back yard.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded with the following:
The children will use the side yard. All chemicals, litter and other hazards will be removed from the yard. The yard will be checked every day before the children go outside. A flexible fencing may be obtained to ensure that the children use the side yard only and do not access the yard behind the house.

Standard #: 22VAC40-180-2-L
Description: Based upon observation, the provider has not ensured that toxic household products are in areas inaccessible to children.
Evidence:
1. There were 2 containers of bleach on the kitchen counter.
2. There was a large container of hand sanitizer with a warning label on a shelving unit in the living room.
3. The doors to the family bedrooms in which were stored personal hygiene items and other products did not have locks or other child proofing.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded with the following:
All chemicals and potentially hazardous items will be stored in closets or cabinets with child proof latches to ensure they are inaccessible to children.
