Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.
Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:22am-11:10m with the provider on site. There were 5 children (16 points) present with 2 caregivers. A sample of 4 children's files and 3 caregiver/household files were reviewed. The children were engaged in the following: playing with toys and drinking bottles in infant seats. The physical space, attendance records, drill record, menu and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. The site was clean and organized. Interactions between the children and caregivers were positive. There were no medications on site. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice.

Please complete the ?plan of correction? and ?date to be corrected? for each violation cited on the violation notice and return it to the department within 5 business days from receipt. Please specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Please do not use caregiver names; list caregivers by positions only.

Any plans of correction not received within 5 business days will result in the plans not appearing on the Violation Notice and public website.

Please contact me if you have any questions at Stacy.Doyle@doe.virginia.gov or 571-835-0386.
