Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on October 13, 2023. The inspector arrived at 10:30am and departed at approximately 11:45am. Present in the home were 4 children, totaling 9 points, and one provider. Children and staff interactions were observed throughout the entire inspection. Children were observed during indoor and outdoor free play, handwashing, and the start of lunch. Emergency preparedness documents were observed. A sample size of four children's records were reviewed as well as the providers. No children's injuries were reported since the last inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the family day home and were reviewed with the provider at the exit interview.
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that areas and furnishings of the family day home, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. There is a light pole outside in the children?s play area with an exposed wire and electrical outlet on the ground. This poses as an injury hazard to the children as it is in reach of children in care. 2. Staff #1 confirmed that the light pole did have wires and an exposed outlet in reach of children.
Plan of Correction:
The provider responded with the following: Provider will cover the exposed wire and electrical outlet on the ground so that children will not touch it. Provider stated that they have not used the light and unaware if there is an electrical current through the outlet. Provider will call the landlord to see if there is electricity coming from the outlet and if it can be removed or repaired to ensure that the children are safe while on the playground.
