Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed the use of a wading pool with children in care in terms of direct and constant supervision, written authorization from parents, children in diapers or pull-ups, emptying pool after each use and when it is not currently in use.

Both your child attendance sheet (kept current at all times, and updated as children arrive and leave the program) and the name and phone number for your "back up provider" should be in clear view so that a first responder easily sees it if you are unable to assist them upon their arrival.

Today we discussed the trampoline located in the provider's back yard and it was clarified that this piece of equipment is ONLY used for household children or family, during hours when the voluntary registered day home is NOT operating.

Also discussed was the use of a portable basinet / crib for the infant enrolled. Once the infant is capable of pushing up onto his arms, he will need to be in a deeper crib so that he is not able to topple from the crib if he pushes or pulls up on his own.

Safe Sleep practices (to include infant being placed on their back for sleep and not including soft / stuffed blankets or toys in the infants? sleep location) were reviewed and a pamphlet was shared the provider to use when discussing or sharing sleep guidelines with infants? parents.

Many candles are located throughout the home and we discussed fire hazards and that candles are not in use / lit when children are in care.

Accessible means that a child is "capable" of reaching or accessing it. Areas that children are "not allowed" to enter are not inaccessible unless the children are not capable of reaching or entering the space due to locks, safety mechanisms, gates etc.

Comments:
An announced Initial Voluntary Registered Monitoring Inspection was initiated and concluded on 7/22/2022. There were 3 children present, ranging in ages from 5 months old to 3 years old with the provider supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of registration, records, background checks, storage of firearms, health and safety, and child abuse and neglect. A total of 3 child records and 2 provider / household member records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-850-90-C
Description: Based on a review of records and interview, the provider does not have all of the required documentation in each enrolled child's record.
Evidence:
Three children's records were reviewed The record for child #1, #2, and #3 who all enrolled for care beginning 5/31/2022 did not contain results of a physical examination.
The record for child #1, #2 and #3 did not contain information regarding who may visit/ call for a child / pick up a child from care.

Plan of Correction: The provider stated that she will speak with the parents and obtain the results of the last physical for child #1, #2 and #3 .
In addition, she will ask the parents to complete information for each individual child regarding who may call, visit, or pick up each of the three children.
This documentation will be obtained and placed in the children's records within 10 days.

Standard #: 8VAC20-850-110-C
Description: The following items on the Health and Safety Checklist were not in compliance at the time of the inspection on 7/22/2022:

"I comply with ? 22.1-289.049 of the Code of Virginia by requiring proof of each child's identity and age for children. My records for each child include: Documentation of previous child day care programs and schools the child has attended and Documentation that proof of identity was reviewed and the date of review"

The records for child #1, #2 and #4 did not contain documentation that proof of identity for the child was reviewed and the date of such review.

Plan of Correction: The provider stated that she will ask the parents of child #1, #2 and #3 to provide information regarding other programs or care the children have attended (if applicable) and proof of each child's identity and age. The children are family members of the provider and the provider was not aware that she needed to document in the children's records that this information had been reviewed.
