Description: Based on observations and interview, the provider did not maintain areas in the back yard in a clean and safe condition.

Evidence: In the children?s outdoor play area in the backyard, there was a rusted grill and compressor. There was a board on the back deck at the top of the steps that was warped and protruding which could cause a tripping hazard. There was peeling paint on the deck and on the trim around the back door. The children enter and exit the family day home through the back door. The provider acknowledged that the deck needs repairs and that the rusted equipment posed a hazard.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-280
Description: Based on observations and interview, the provider did not store poisonous materials safely in an area inaccessible to children.

Evidence: In the corner of the deck leading to the back door there was an open box of mothballs and a can of RAID pesticide within reach of children. The children enter and exit the family day home through the back door. In the back yard near the children?s play equipment there was a full gasoline can and a container of Round Up weed killer.
