The following was discussed with the provider: -Due to the inground pool in the backyard, it is the responsibility of the provider to take steps to safeguard the outdoor play area from a drowning hazard. Creating a plan and system for ensuring children are not able to access the backyard was discussed.
-Please be mindful of small objects and foods that present a choking hazard to children younger than 3 years of age. Please refer to the AAP and USDA for the most recent information on choking hazards.
Comments:
An inspection was conducted on 01/13/2023. A tour of the home was conducted, in addition to a record review and interviews with Caregiver. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on observation, record review and interview with caregivers, the provider did not ensure all criteria on the health and safety checklist were met. Evidence:
a. There was not a safety gate placed on the staircase leading to the room over the garage where a toddler was observed sleeping.
b. Disinfectant spray bottles were stored in an unlocked cabinet under the bathroom sink, accessible to children in care.
c. The provider did not have documentation of having an inspection of the fireplace and chimney.
Plan of Correction:
All chemicals will be moved to a place that is inaccessible to children, a safety gate will be placed at the top and bottom of the stairs at the room-over-the garage and an inspection for the fireplace will be scheduled.
