A capacity of (5) five children is recommended based on childcare space and zoning. Care will be provided in the living room and dining area of the kitchen. Meals will be provided by the licensee. The home is equipped with a variety of age-appropriate equipment and supplies including materials for gross motor, art, literacy, and dramatic play. Two cribs were inspected and met Federals Safety standards. Transportation will be provided. The provider will not administer medications. There were no children present except for one resident child. A walk through of the entire home was conducted during today's inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing, emergencies, and nutrition. A total of one caregiver record was reviewed. A conditional (6 month) license will be recommended. An unannounced follow-up will be conducted within 60 days to determine compliance with standards not determined at the initial inspection. Based on observation and interview, the provider did not ensure medications, including the medications for household members, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. Multiple packets of aspirin were observed in the first aid kit. The first aid kit was kept in the unlocked closet in the living room. 2. Household medications were observed in the unlocked kitchen cabinet. 3. The provider acknowledged the medication were unlocked.
Plan of Correction:
Per the provider: My parents are coming over today to help me install the child safety locks on the cabinet. While the inspector was on site, the provider's mother arrived to assist in installing the locks on the cabinet. The aspirin packets were removed from the first aid kits and placed with the other household medications.
