Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was completed on March 16, 2021. The provider was contacted by telephone (video call) to initiate the inspection. There were 29 children present and in the care of eight staff members. The inspector was able to view all required documentation. A virtual tour of the children in care was conducted. Four staff records and three children's records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined a non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Based on the review of four staff records and verification from the director, the center failed to obtain all of the required background checks for one staff member.
Evidence: 1. The record for Staff Member B did not contain an Interstate Sex Offender Registry Check from the state outside of Virginia where the staff member had lived within the last five years. Date of hire for Staff Member B was 02/23/2021. 2. The director confirmed that she had not obtained the Interstate Sex Offender Registry Check for Staff Member B.
Plan of Correction:
During the inspection, the director obtained the out-of-state sex offender background check for the staff member. In the future, she will ensure that she obtains the check before a new staff member is hired.
