Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on May 22, 2024 , from 9:00am-11:00am. At the time of entrance, 79 children were in care with 16 supervising staff members present. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records. Children were observed during morning snack time, centers, handwashing, diaper changing, engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Repeat violations were found and are identified within this report.

Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1. In the three year old classroom in the bathroom, a bottle of cleaning solution and a container of sanitizing spray was located in a high cabinet not locked up.

The cabinet was locked at the time of the inspection.

Based on observation, children's hands were not washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes before and after eating meals or snacks. Evidence: 1. In the infant classroom, one child's hands were not washed after eating morning snack.
