Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed ensuring that the kitchen is locked when not in use / occupied by staff.
The Emergency preparedness template was shared with the vendor to offer a concise written plan which covers the various portions /versions of the current plan.
A form for documenting the three types of emergency drills in one place was offered to the vendor. The model form for documenting injuries was also provided to the vendor.

Comments:
An unannounced Subsidy Health and Safety inspection was conducted from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. on 11/26/2019.
At the time of entrance, the following adult to child ratios were observed:
12 children, 2 to 4 years old, with 3 staff and a volunteer.
The records sample size consisted of 5 children?s records and 6 staff records. Children were observed settling onto cots for rest period and resting quietly. The vendor states that no medication is administered to children in care at this time and that children are transported in a vehicle on occasion for planned outings. Transportation was not observed during the inspection. However, standards regarding transportation were reviewed. There have been no accidents or injuries requiring first aid or medical treatment incurred by children in care since the last inspection. There are no children currently enrolled who have diagnosed food allergies. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Thank you for your time during today's inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-B
Description: Based on a review of records and interview, the vendor did not ensure that all staff who work directly with children shall complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff within their first 90 days of employment.
Evidence:
Six staff records were reviewed.
The record for staff #5 whose date of employment is documented as 2/18/19 did not have documentation of Virginia Preservice Training.
The program director (staff #6) stated that staff #5 has started, but not completed, the Virginia Preservice Training.

Plan of Correction: Staff #6 stated that Staff #5 would complete the 10 hours of Virginia Preservice Training by no later than January 1, 2020.
