Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A complaint inspection was initiated on July 29, 2020 and concluded on August 14, 2020. A complaint was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas of Physical Plant. The in-charge person was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation. The inspector requested from the director written documentation and pictures required to complete the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the allegation of non-compliance with standards or law and violations were issued. Any violations not related to the complaint but identified during the course of the investigation can be found on the violation notice>
Based on observation and interviews with the staff, the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions shall include, but not be limited to, splintered, cracked or otherwise deteriorating wood; chipped or peeling paint; visible cracks, bending or warping, rusting or breakage of any equipment; head entrapment hazards; and protruding nails, bolts or other components that could entangle clothing or snag skin.
Evidence: Chipped and peeling paint was observed around the wooden window frames in 3 out of 4 classrooms (orange room, yellow room and green room). Staff #1 confirmed the orange room ages 3 years to 4 years old, the yellow room ages 1 1/2 years to 2 1/2 years and the green room is for infants had chipped and peeling paint around the wooden window frames.
Plan of Correction:
Director will have entire building checked for chipped paint. Any found will be panted immediately.
