Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today, October 29, 2019, beginning at 8:30 AM and ending at 12:30 PM. There were 13 children in care today with four staff providing direct care and supervision and four other professional staff. There were no medications onsite during this inspection. All areas and vehicles that are used for care were inspected, as were five children?s records and five staff records. The inspector looked at first aid and emergency supplies, drill documentation, and required health and fire inspections. The children were observed during the following activities: breakfast, free play, coloring, a fire drill, and fire safety discussion. There were discussions about children?s records and staff records. The violation was discussed at the conclusion of the inspection. Based on observations, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. If a key is used, the key shall not be accessible to the children.
Evidence:
There was a bottle of spray rust remover and a spray bottle of glass cleaner located in the bus used to transport children. The rust remover was located near the front window of the bus. The glass cleaner was located on the floor of the bus, near the driver's seat.
Plan of Correction:
Staff removed the chemicals during the inspection.
