The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection on 04/04/2023 In response to a complaint that was received in the licensing regarding allegations in the area of behavioral guidance. Interviews were conducted with staff, records reviewed and observations of the program were made relating to the allegation. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on interviews the center did not ensure behavioral guidance was constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and shall be intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. Evidence: 1. It was reported, Staff 1 used verbal commands, described as "harsh, loud and shouting" instead of guiding children to the appropriate behavior. 2. Several staff reported Staff 1 does not get up from the chair to redirect children, rather she shouts verbal commands. 3. Staff #1 had a written disciplinary action for not using positive guidance or redirection on 03/22/2023. 4. Staff #1 confirmed she gets loud with the children when she becomes stressed.
Plan of Correction:
Staff 1 was retrained on company and state behavior guidance policy. Management will do periodic observations to ensure compliance. DM will periodically inspect for compliance
