Technical Assistance:
Consultation with the director included providing shade on the infant playground during the summer months, a review of the new standards that were effective 10/13/2021 and submitting Virginia Central Registry Searches through the CCAPS portal.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on 05/11/2022 and concluded on 05/11/2022. There were a total of 66 children with 13 direct care staff members present. Children were observed engaged in music class, outdoor play time, reading books and various art activities. Lunch served today was fish nuggets, corn, and mashed potatoes. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place.
Evidence:
1. Classroom #5 had Simoniz and Clorox in an unlocked upper cabinet.
2. Classroom #7 had Windex in an unlocked upper cabinet.
3. The School-Age classroom had unlocked disinfectant in an upper cabinet.

Plan of Correction: Cleaning materials will remain in an upper cabinet and will be secured with a lock.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-420-E-1
Description: Based on daily activity record review and staff statement, the center did not post a daily record for infants, who are awake and cannot turn over by themselves, the amount of time spent on their stomachs.
Evidence:
There was no documentation available to verify that tummy time was practiced for each infant unable to turn over by themselves.

Plan of Correction: Tummy time will be documented through the parent app, written documentation will be sent to parents if the app isn't working.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-440-G
Description: Based on observation and staff statements, cribs were not used for children under 12 months of age.
Evidence:
3 children were sleeping in infant rocking chairs ranging from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

Plan of Correction: Infants will be moved to their individual cribs if they fall asleep in the swings.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-C
Description: Based on a review of diaper creams, the product was not labeled with the child?s name.
Evidence:
One diaper cream in the infant room did not have a name on it during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: The diaper cream was labeled with the child's name during the inspection.
