Comments:
A renewal inspection was initiated on 5/23/2023 and concluded on 5/23/2023. There were 26 children present with six staff supervising and one administrator. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and four staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 9:15 am and concluded at 12:00 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions shall include, but not be limited to, splintered, cracked or otherwise deteriorating wood.
Evidence:
The large wooden climbing playground equipment has areas that are splintering.

Plan of Correction: Cracked and splintered wooden slats will be replaced.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-330-B
Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure that where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards when tested in accordance with the procedures described in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard F1292-99.
Evidence:
The small wooden climbing/swing playground equipment has approximately one inch of resilient surfacing under the swings.

Plan of Correction: More mulch (resilient surfacing) will be ordered for the playground areas.
