Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today between the hours of 9:30am-12:30pm. There were a total of 260 children with 62 supervising staff members present. Children were observed during lunch time, finger painting, handwashing, engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. A selection of staff and children records, and other documents were reviewed. The physical space, emergency supplies, evacuation drills, attendance records, and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-H
Description: Based on observation, personal belongings were accessible to children.
Evidence:
1. In the K-3 classroom, a bag belonging to a staff member was hung on a hook accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The staff member moved the bag to a locked cabinet immediately and was reminded of the requirement to keep all personal belongings inaccessible to students.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation, electrical outlets did not have protective covers.
Evidence:
1. In the Toddler classroom, one electrical outlet did not have a protective cover.

Plan of Correction: The electrical outlet was replaced with a tamper proof outlet the same day.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-B
Description: Based on observation, one bottle fed infant was not held when being fed.
Evidence:
1. During the time of the inspection, staff was observed feeding an infant(6 months old)a bottle while the was laying on a boppy pillow on the floor.

Plan of Correction: The child was picked up in the moment and reminders were given to infant teachers that even when a child can sometimes hold their own bottle, if they cannot do it consistently they need to be held.
