EBT Scam Prevention

Criminals are trying to steal card benefits nationwide through scams that attempt to trick you into providing your EBT or P-EBT card number and/or PIN. The USDA is actively monitoring this fraudulent activity and has created this dedicated webpage to keep the public informed.

Beginning July 17, 2023, the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is able to replace missing or stolen EBT funds when certain types of scams occur between Oct. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2024. It is still important to take proactive measures to protect your EBT card and benefits, whenever possible. However, if you think you are the victim of an EBT/SNAP scam, you must notify your local department of social services right away and begin the process of applying for reimbursement funds.
