Technical Assistance:
Topics discussed/questions answered on the following:
1) Since expiration dates are no longer being printed on licenses and certifications, ensure staff are checking the appropriate website to make sure they are still current.
2) Recommended elopement drills be documented on a separate form from the fire drills.
3) Even though family members may sign the resident orientation form for those residents who are seriously cognitively impaired, the resident still also needs to sign the form (which can be a signature, mark, etc).
4) Ensure the trainer initials and dates each blank and does not draw a line through all except the last blank on the staff orientation form.
5) Even though fall risk was documented on the individualized service plan; recommended the level of fall risk also be indicated.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 9/30/20 and concluded on 10/2/20. The administrator was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. The administrator reported that the current census was 82 (73 in assisted living and 9 in the secured unit). The inspector emailed the administrator a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed five resident, one discharge, one volunteer, one contract staff and five staff records. Selected sections of one additional resident and three staff records were also reviewed. The inspector also reviewed fire drill log sheets, activities calendars, menu, staff schedules, dietary/medication/health care oversights, required postings, resident council meeting minutes, emergency food and water, staff rounds log sheet and a virtual tour of various areas of the facility was also conducted. Information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were issued.
