The Designated Charge Staff and the Licensing Inspector discussed the risk assessment ratings for the violations for this inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-73-660-A-1 Complaint related: No Description: Based on observations completed during the complaint inspection, it was determined the facility to ensure the medication carts were locked, when not under sight supervision, at all times.
Evidence:
During a facility inspection tour with Staff A, a medication cart was observed outside a resident?s room unlocked, and unsupervised. Staff B, the medication aide assigned to the cart, stated he was administering medication in the room, and had accidentally left the cart unlocked.
Two other medication carts were checked located throughout the facility, and the these carts were locked.Plan of Correction: Director of Health Services ?DOHS? or her Designee will in-service all med techs & nurses on the severity of locking the med cart when they are not under sight or supervision, this training will be completed by 2/6/2020. DOHS or designee will do multiple rounds each day for 30 days to ensure that the carts are locked when not in sight supervision to be completed 3/6/2020. A reminder will be added ?CARTS MUST BE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES WHEN NOT IN SIGHT SUPERVISION?. All Directors have been instructed to check any cart as they walk by to ensure they are locked at all times. We will be in compliance as of 1/31/2020 and ongoing thereafter.
