Technical Assistance:
The 2024 Virginia Annual Health and Safety Update Training is a follow-up to the Virginia Preservice Training for Childcare Staff course. This training course is required for all staff that work directly with children in a childcare program (center-based and family day homes) that participates in the Virginia Childcare Subsidy Program (aka subsidy vendors). VDOE Licensing Inspectors will verify that existing subsidy vendors, and their staff who work directly with children to have a certificate of completion for this training

Comments:
A subsidy health and safety (SHSI) inspection was initiated on July 31, 2024 and concluded on September 5, 2024. There were 169 children present with 17 staff supervising. A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this supplemental inspection.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within five (5) business days from today, which will be the close of business on September 25, 2024. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-2
Description: Staff shall have first aid certification within 90 days of employment. Staff 2 and Staff 3 employed for over 90 days, did not have documentation of first aid certification.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-F
Description: Staff who work directly with children shall annually attend at least 16
hours of training and staff development activities, to include the Department's health
and safety update course. Staff 8 did not have documentation of the 3 hour VA preservice health and safety update course.
