Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on 10/02/2024, as a part of the licensure period. The on-site inspection began at 2:40 PM and ended at 3:45 PM. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 25 children present and 3 staff. The inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 3 staff records on-site.
This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews and observations.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: The center's procedures for administering medication shall Include duration of the parent's authorization for medication, provided that it shall expire or be renewed after 10 work days. Long-term prescription drug use and over-the- counter medication may be allowed with written authorization from the child's physician and parent.

One long term medication authorization at the center did not include the length of authorization information. (Child 1)

Plan of Correction: The school nurse has a copy of the missing part of the form. We will get a copy form the nurse.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-H
Description: The center shall maintain a record of the dates of the practice drills for one year. For centers offering multiple shifts, the simulated drills shall be divided evenly among the various shifts.

The log of practiced drills was not available for the months of April ,May and June of 2024.

Plan of Correction: The main office was contacted to get a copy of the drill log from the previous school year.
