Discussed changes to standards which took effect on 10/132021, to include updated requirements for initial tuberculosis screenings, orientation requirements, and required policies.

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 11:00am-12:00pm. There were 21 children directly supervised by 5 supervising staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 5 children?s records, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, transitioning indoors from outdoor play, and preparing for lunch. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-B Description: Based on record review, one staff record reviewed did not have the results of a criminal background check prior to hire.
Evidence:
Staff 3's record has a criminal record check dated two days after the listed hire date.Plan of Correction: There is currently no outstanding background check. The inspector was able to view the results of the check on the date of inspection.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. A canister of aerosol air freshener was observed on an open shelf in the children's upstairs bathroom.
2. An unlocked cabinet containing sanitizing solution was observed in the front classroom.Plan of Correction: Chemicals will me locked immediately.
