Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.
Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

An unannounced Monitoring Inspection was conducted today. A total of 70 children with 13 staff providing supervision was observed. In the infant classroom, children were observed at small tables engaged in an art project for Father's Day which involved finger painting. Diapering and hand washing procedures were observed. In the older infant class, children were seated in a circle actively engaged with staff by calling out the names of colors both in English and Spanish. Observation of the Preschool 1 class occurred on the playground. Staff were playing ball catch with one group of children. A second group were on tricycles with another staff. Staff were positioned strategically throughout the playground to ensure appropriate supervision. The classrooms on the second level were decorated with several art projects that children had made recently. A super hero bulletin board included pictures of children's fathers. Each classroom had a family picture board that children are able to refer to. The PreK classroom were busy with workbooks in which children were tracing letters of the alphabet. The class is preparing for graduation. The children's graduation portraits were on display in the stairwell. A total of 4 children's files, all medication onsite, 5 staff files and staff training was reviewed. The previous violations from the last inspection were also reviewed, and corrective actions were verified. This inspection occurred between 10am and 12:15pm. Thank you for your cooperation today.
