This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including phone contacts, documents review, and a virtual inspection of two children's classrooms.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 10/29/2021 and concluded on 11/04/21. The director was contacted by phone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 31 children present, ranging in ages from infant to school-age, with 7 staff present and supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records and three staff records were reviewed. New requirements became effective on 10/13/21. The facility has not fully complied with the following requirements:
8VAC20-780-40-K - written procedures for prevention of shaken baby syndrome or abusive head trauma, including coping with crying babies, safe sleeping practices, and sudden infant death syndrome awareness.
8VAC20-780-240-C,D: These new items, in addition to previous orientation requirements, need to be included in orientation prior to the staff member working alone with children and no later than seven days of the date of assuming job responsibilities: Prevention of sudden infant death syndrome and use of safe sleep practices; Prevention of shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma, including procedure to cope with crying babies or distraught children, Prevention of and response to emergencies due to food and other allergic reactions including: Recognizing the symptoms of an allergic reaction; Responding to allergic reaction; Preventing exposure to the specific food and other substances to which the child is allergic and Preventing cross contamination.
