22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS CODE; CARBON MONOXIDE

Comments:
An unannounced renewal study was conducted from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. There were 84 children in care being supervised by 13 staff. The children were observed preparing for nap and resting. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and five staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation it was determined that not all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept locked. Evidence: In the four year old classroom a bottle of bleach and water solution and a bottle of soap and water solution were located on a table, accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The bottles of cleaning solution were locked during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-G
Description: Based on observation and interview it was determined that not all containers that held hazardous substances were labeled to indicate their contents. Evidence: A spray bottle was observed on a table in the four year old classroom. The bottle was not labeled with the contents of the solution that was inside the bottle. Upon interview with staff, it was later determined that the bottle contained a soap and water solution.

Plan of Correction: The spray bottle with the soap and water solution was labeled during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-I
Description: Based on review of medication it was determined that not all procedures for administering prescription medication were followed. Evidence: The emergency medications for child A and child B were not in the original container with a prescription label indicating instructions pertaining to dosage, frequency and manner of administration.

Plan of Correction: Administration will request a prescription label from the parents for the medication of child A and child B.
