This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A renewal inspection was completed on November 6, 2020. The provider was contacted by telephone (video call) to initiate the inspection. There were 33 children in the care of seven staff members. Two additional staff members were available to assist if needed. The inspector conducted a virtual inspection and was able to view all required documentation. Three children?s records and seven staff records were reviewed. All classrooms were virtually observed and the children were engaged in a variety of activities.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with an applicable standard and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on review of seven new staff members' records and verification from the director, the center failed to obtain a completed central registry finding within 30 days of employment for one new staff member.
Evidence:
1. The record for Staff Member #6 did not contain a completed search of the central registry. Date of hire was 09/16/2020.
2. The director confirmed that the results of the central registry search had not been received. She stated that the request for the search had been mailed, but she did not know the date it was mailed.Plan of Correction: The director contacted the Office of Background Investigations during the inspection and the request for the search had been received in their office on 11/04/2020. The search was still being processed. The director will let the inspector know as soon as it is returned and in the future, the search for the central registry check will be requested within 7 days of hire, the date it was mailed will be documented, and the director will follow-up on the search if the results are not received within 30 days of hire.
