A renewal inspection was completed on February 13, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 3:18 pm at the center. There were 70 children present with 9 staff supervising and 3 administrative staff. The inspector completed observations of the children in care participating in tummy time, asleep in cribs, eating in high chair, napping and completing bathroom breaks, interacting with peers and staff, and parent pick ups. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 7 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-C-2 Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the center did not ensure to obtain central registry findings within 30 days of employment or volunteer service.
Evidence: In Staff#4's record (date of hire: 10/02/23) there were no documentation of a central registry findings found for review. Interview with staff confirmed the central registry findings were not available for review during the inspection.Plan of Correction: The center will resubmit request for central registry and documentation
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-140-A Description: Based on review of children's record and interview, the center did not ensure to obtain documentation of each child's physical examination within 30 days after the first day of attendance.
Evidence: In Child#4's record, there was no documentation of a physical examination found. Interview with staff confirmed the documentation was not available for review during the inspection.Plan of Correction: The center will contact the parent to request copy to include in record.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observations and photographs, the center did not ensure all hazardous substances are kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence: The following observations were made by the inspector:
1. In the School Age area, the storage closet was unlocked containing various disinfectants, cleaners, paints, and adhesive removers with the labels "keep out of reach of children" and "warnings"
2. In the Lions and Tigers classroom, there was a can disinfectant spray with the labels "keep out of reach of children" and "caution" on top of storage cabinet.
3. Photographs of the classroom observations during the inspection.Plan of Correction: The center will ensure or remind all staff to lock cabinets in classroom
