Technical assistance was provided regarding proper storage and documentation requirements for medication.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from approximately 9:25am-11:00am. There were 6 children (15 points)directly supervised by 2 caregivers. The home, 3 caregiver records, 3 children?s records, 3 household member?s records, evacuation drills, emergency supplies, medications and policies were inspected. Children were observed eating snack, handwashing, coloring, and signing songs about the calendar in English and Spanish. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for children. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-730-D Description: Based on observation and interview, medications were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1.Medications for Child #1 were observed in the child?s backpack. The backpack was unlocked and hanging in the child?s cubby, accessible to children.
2.Caregiver #1 stated the medication for Child #1 has been kept in the child?s backpack throughout the day and is returned to the parent when Child #1 is picked up each day.Plan of Correction: Provider has a locked container to store medication in a location, children do not have access to.
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-750-A Description: Based on record review, written parent authorization noting any known adverse reactions was not obtained at least annually for topical skin products for 2 of 3 children.
Evidence:
1.The most recent written parent authorization for topical skin products in the record for Child #1 was dated 6/2/2022.
2.The most recent written parent authorization for topical skin products in the record for Child #3 was dated 8/24/2022.Plan of Correction: Caregiver sent form for parents to complete sign and return.
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-90-C Description: Based on record review, The family day home did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations for a child every six months for a child under the age of two years.
Evidence:
1.The most recent documentation of immunizations in the record for Child #2 (19 months old) was dated 7/6/2023.Plan of Correction: Caregiver notified parents and parents stated they have scheduled an appointment for child and will forward documentation to provider by 3/15/2024.
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-210-A Description: Based on record review and interview, one caregiver did not obtain a minimum of sixteen clock hours of training annually in areas relevant to their job responsibilities.
Evidence: The most recent training documentation available for review for Caregiver #1 was completed in 2022.Plan of Correction: Caregiver to enroll in training to obtain sixteen hours for this year.
