The Licensing Inspector conducted an investigation in response to a self reported incident that occured on 1/14/2021. Interviews were conducted with staff. The information gathered during this investigation supports the violation of a inappropriate behavioral guidance; the violation was discussed with the center director. Please complete the columns for "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" for each violation cited on the violation notice, and then return a signed and dated copy to the licensing office within 5 calendar days of receipt. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B Description: Based on interview, the center did not ensure behavioral guidance was constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts.
Evidence:
1. On 1/14/2021 at approximately 2:45pm, Child #1 (2 years old) was laying on a mat and attempted to crawl away from the mat. Staff A grabbed Child #1's shirt by her left hand, pulled the child up by the shirt to a standing position and put the child on her lap to avoid the child from bothering others.
2. Staff A stated she was feeling frustrated.Plan of Correction: The Staff member no longer works at the Center. In the next Staff Meeting on February 2, 2021, Center Directors will provide mandatory training that will review with the full staff:
* The Violation * Appropriate Responses to Children's Behaviours * Available Supports
In addition, the Center's Inclusion Specialist will provide training opportunities to review techniques for stress management and responses. Specifically through the use of the Conscious Discipline curriculum.
