Discussed and clarified the requirements related to annual updates for children's records (8VAC20-780-60.A) and the area of physical plant related to resilient surfacing for playground's and maintaining the poured in palace surfacing (8VAC20-780-270. A.).
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated on August 6, 2024 and completed on August 8, 2024. The on-site inspection began at 11:15am and ended at 2:10pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 64 children present and 12 staff.
The inspector reviewed 6 children?s records and 6 staff records and electronically on August 7, 2024. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews, observations and measurements Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within five (5) business days from today, which will be the close of business on August 15, 2024. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-C Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure the required first aid kits shall include all required items.
Evidence: The first aid kit used for field trips did not include a thermometer and a first aid instructional manual.Plan of Correction: Provide a thermometer and first aid instructional manual for bus. Make purchase to complete first aid kit.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-D Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure emergency supplies shall be required at the center and be available on field trips.
Evidence: There was not a an ice pack or cooling agent available on the bus the children use for fieldtrips.Plan of Correction: Provide icepacks for busses and available for fieldtrips.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-F Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that when centers choose to provide meals or snacks, they shall have a menu listing the food to be served for meals and snacks during the current one-week period.
Evidence: The menu posted for the current week did not include lunch and center director confirmed they serve lunch daily.Plan of Correction: Post menu that provides all meals served during the day.
