An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 10/04/2024 as a part of the licensure period. The on-site inspection began at 10:45am and ended at 1:00pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, observations and measurements.The inspector reviewed 6 children?s records and 3 staff records. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: Areas and equipment of the center are required to be maintained in a safe condition.
1. In the toddler room there was peeling paint on the border next to the sink, rust under 2 of the faucets.
2. In the 3 year-old room the rubber border on the peeling table was peeling, there was peeling paint and rust on the wall and 2 missing floor tiles in the bathroom.
3. In the school-age room the metal plate on the wall was rusted and the paneling on the wall next to the sink was bubbled and warped.Plan of Correction: The director will place work orders to correct the physical plant violations and will follow-up on work orders previously submitted.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-B Description: Disposable diapers are to be disposed in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.
In the toddler room a staff member was observed disposing of a soiled diaper by opening the lid of the diaper pail with her hand.Plan of Correction: The director has an upcoming staff meeting and will discuss diapering and handwashing with all staff and will also conduct observations in the rooms that have children in diapers.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-B Description: When sunscreen is used written parent authorization noting any known adverse reactions is required.
In the school-age room there were 5 bottles of sunscreen and the center did not have written parent authorization noting any known adverse reactions.Plan of Correction: The sunscreen and insect repellent was from the summer and had not been discarded. The director discarded them during the inspection.
