Apply for Virginia SUN Bucks
If you believe you may be eligible for Virginia SUN Bucks based on your income, you can apply by filling out the Virginia SUN Bucks application, printing and mailing it (it cannot be emailed or faxed) to Virginia SUN Bucks, c/o VDSS, 5600 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060. VDSS must receive the application by Aug. 30, 2024. Digital or physical signatures on the application page are okay.
Beginning July 22, 2024 you can also apply by calling the Virginia SUN Bucks Call Center at 866-513-1414 (toll-free) or 804-294-1633 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. ‐ 6 p.m. Applications will be taken over the phone through Aug. 30, 2024, which is the last day to apply.
Please note that the application cannot be processed by your local department of social services or school.
To prepare for your application, you will need to provide:
- Your household income.
- Information about your child/children including their age(s), birth date(s), the county/city school division, the school(s) they attend, and mailing address(es).
- Each student's local student ID number (you can find that number in the parent portal).
You will be asked to provide the last four digits of your child's Social Security number (SSN), but it is not required, nor is proof of citizenship or proof of income such as paystubs.

Opt-Out of Virginia SUN Bucks
If you receive a Virginia SUN Bucks card and don't want the benefits, simply do not use the card. The benefits will be removed from the card and returned to the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service after 122 days of non-use. You will receive a letter in the mail 30-45 days before the benefits are removed reminding you about the benefits.
