Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
A Subsidy Health and Safety monitoring inspection was conducted on July 22, 2024 to review supplemental health and safety requirements. This inspection began at 8:55am and ended at 12:30pm. There were 9 staff with 37 children in 5 classrooms at the time of the visit. Children were observed arriving for the day, playing with age appropriate toys and materials, engaged in storytime, eating lunch, and rest time. Children's files, emergency preparedness procedures, fire drill log were reviewed. The physical plant and playground were inspected. There were no medications on site at this time. A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. No violations were found during the supplemental subsidy health and safety inspection requirements.
