Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were a total of 18 children with 4 staff. There were 2 classrooms occupied and observed and were found within supervision guidelines. The children were observed participating in circle time reviewing the days of the week and today's weather. Positive interaction between staff and children were observed. The second classroom located on the main level of the center had dioramas on display which focused on dinosaurs and their habitats. A complete inspection of the physical plant, a review of 4 children and 4 staff records, fire drill log, and emergency procedures was conducted during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicle standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. This inspection occurred between 10:00am and 11:15am. Thank you for your cooperation today. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov.
