Comments:
A non-mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on August 24, 2022 from 10:00 A.M.-12:30 P.M. There were 74 children present, ranging in ages from 4 months to 5 years of age, with 17 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies. A total of nine staff records were reviewed. Classroom observations were conducted and all classrooms and an additional classroom were measured for capacity.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-2
Description: Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that the National Fingerprint background check was on file before the first day of employment.

Evidence:
1. Staff #2's date of hire was 08/16/2022. The fingerprints on file were dated 08/17/2022. Orientation documentation was dated 08/15/2022.
2. Staff #3's date of hire was 08/16/2022. The fingerprints on file were dated 08/17/2022. Orientation documentation was dated 08/16/2022.
3. Administration verified the date of employment for Staff #2 and Staff #3, and the dates that the fingerprints were obtained.

Plan of Correction: In the future any new employee will not receive orientation or begin employment until fingerprints have been obtained and placed in the employee's file.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-L
Description: Based on observation and review of medication, the center failed to ensure that all medication was kept in a locked location.

Evidence:
1. In Classroom #1 there was a pack of albuterol vials in a child's backpack. The backpack was not locked and was accessible to children.
2. Staff #1 confirmed that there was medication in the child's backpack.

Plan of Correction: Staff immediately place the medication into a locked cabinet in the classroom.
