Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on June 3, 2024 from 11:00am-12:00pm. There were 23 children directly supervised by 7 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Description: The licensee must obtain a signed sworn disclosure statement from all staff prior to employment. Staff 2 worked for two days prior to completing a sworn disclosure statement.

Description: The center is required to obtain updated immunization records every six months for children under the age of two. Four of the reviewed children's records did not contain updated immunizations. (Child 1, Child 3, Child 4, and Child 5).

Description: REPEAT VIOLATION
Staff are required to complete orientation training prior to the staff member working alone with children and no later than seven days of the date of assuming job responsibilities. Staff 1 did not complete orientation training until 90 days after assuming job responsibilities.

Description: There shall always be at least one staff member on duty who has obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. None of the staff present during the inspection has completed the training within the preceding three years.

Description: REPEAT VIOLATION
Hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Two unlocked cabinets were observed with spray bottles of a bleach solution.

Plan of Correction: Signs have been posted to all cabinets to make sure they are kept locked and I will be supervising daily. Aura Valarezo.

Description: The licensee is required to obtain the required training for medication they have agreed to administer to children. One child has Auvi Q medication and an authorization to administer the medication on file. No center staff have completed the required training to administer this medication.

Plan of Correction: I will ensure that the next time staff takes CPR will also take training for administering Auvi Q medication. I have completed training to administer this medication. Aura Valarezo.

Description: REPEAT VIOLATION
The licensee is required to have the duration that a parental medication authorization is effective documented. The medication authorization for Child 3's medication did not have the duration the authorization is valid documented.
