Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 6/28/2024 from 1:45pm to 3:13pm. At the time of the inspection there were 27 children in care and 8 staff members. Children were observed napping. The center, including classroom's, bathrooms, kitchen and playground were toured. Five children and five staff member records were reviewed. Emergency drills, emergency supplies, required postings, background checks and staff qualifications and trainings were also reviewed. The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice and discussed during the exit interview.

Description: Based on record review and interviews, it was determined the center did not ensure that staff annually complete a minimum of 16 hours of training appropriate to the age of children in care.
Evidence:
1. The 2023 annual training hours documented for staff #2 was 2 hours. This was less than the 16 hours required.
2. The Director confirmed here were 2 hours of training documented for staff #2.
