Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Discussed the need for crib rail protectors for some of the cribs located onsite.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring Inspection was conducted today. There were a total of 4 children (10pts) with the Provider and 1 assistant. The children were seated in high chairs eating lunch. Lunches are brought from home. All food and drink were labeled to identify each child's food. No food allergies identified at this time. Staff were observed assisting some children with eating and also encouraging them to finish their lunches. Hand washing was observed directly after lunch as the children transitioned to free play. Adequate toys and equipment were provided in the programming space and located at a level that encouraged independence selection of toys. The toys were determined age and stage appropriate for the children who were present. Observation of the crib room, bathroom and diapering area was also made. Discussed purchasing crib rail protectors in the near future. Diapering procedures were also observed as the children prepared to transition to afternoon nap. A total of 3 child files and both the provider and assistant's files were reviewed. annual training hours were reviewed along with current certifications. The previous violations were reviewed from the December inspection and the corrective actions were verified. This inspection occurred between 10:45am and 12:15pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.
