Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on 5/824. The on-site inspection began at 9:55 am and ended at 1:35 pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There was 112 children present with 17 staff providing supervision. The inspector reviewed 7 staff and children's records. The inspection included document review, a tour of the daycare facility, interviews and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within three (3) business days from today, which will be the close of business on 6/13/24. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-M
Description: The center shall maintain in a way that is accessible to all staff a current written list of all children with allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room/area where children are present.
1. The allergy list posted in classroom 107 was dated 8/21/23, however the current list is dated 12/4/23.
2. Child A has an allergy to walnuts and pecans and their allergies were not posted on the 12/4/23 list.
3. Child B enrolled on 2/9/24 with a nut allergy. Child B's allergy was never included on the allergy list.

Plan of Correction: Allergy lists were corrected and updated in all classrooms on 5/8/24.
Staff were notified of the allergy violations on 5/8/24.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-340-F
Description: Children under 10 years of age shall always be within actual sight and sound supervision of staff.
The partial wall prevented the staff in the infant room from having sight supervision of 4 infants who were in their cribs in the napping area.

Plan of Correction: Staff have been instructed to have one staff member present where cribs are located if there is a child napping. All staff were notified of a sight supervision violation on 5/8/24.Admin met with infant staff individually on 5/9/24 to ensure all staff understand sight and sound regulations.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-B
Description: Sunscreen shall be inaccessible to children under 5 years of age.
Sunscreen was on a shelf in reach of children in classroom 104, which serves children from 12 to 24 months of age.

Plan of Correction: Staff were reminded that even when applying sunscreen, it should remain out of
reach of all children. The staff member was met with on 5/8/24 to discuss how to safely apply and store sunscreen. All staff were notified of the sunscreen violation on 5/8/24.
