Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on 7/24/2024. The on-site inspection began at 11:20am and ended at 1:15pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 106 children present and 17 staff. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records. This inspection included
document review (i.e. Injury logs, policies and procedures, emergency drill logs, medication administration logs, authorization forms), a tour of the facility, interviews and observations.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-130-E
Description: Based on record review, the center did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for children under the age of two years.
Evidence: Child #3 (14 months) most recent documented immunizations are dated from when the child was 6 months old.

Plan of Correction: We don't think that the child is due for updated immunizations, but we will inquire with the family.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-160-C
Description: Based on record review, the center did not obtain subsequent tuberculosis (TB) screenings for each employee every two years.
Evidence: Staff #2's most recent documented TB screening is dated 6/6/2022.

Plan of Correction: We'll make sure they get an appointment scheduled and results received.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A
Description: Based on record review, children's records did not contain all required information.
Evidence: Child #2's record did not contain a second emergency contact.

Plan of Correction: We will reach out to the family to get another emergency contact.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-D
Description: Based on observation, cleaning and sanitizing materials were kept with and above food equipment, utensils and single-service articles.
Evidence: Cleaning materials were observed store in a cabinet with and above food equipment in the Preschool 2 classroom.

Plan of Correction: We can move the food items to be stored above the cleaners.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-E
Description: Based on observation, infant bottles were not dated.
Evidence: Two bottles were observed without the date on the counter in the Infant 3 classroom.

Plan of Correction: The parents are responsible for dating the bottles each day. We will remind the teachers to be double checking.
