Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 5/13/24 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm with program staff. There were nine children in care, ranging in age from five- to 12-years-old, supervised by three staff. The children were observed having free play then transitioning outside to the playground. Four child records and three staff records were reviewed. The Center has three staff with current certification in CPR and First Aid, as well as trained in Daily Health Observation. Program staff reported that there were no medications on-site for children, but the center has two staff current in Medication Administration Training (MAT). Required postings were observed. The attendance, menu, allergy list, and emergency drill log were reviewed. Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 5/24/24. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8 Description: Based on review of four child records, the program did not obtain a written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and the steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction. Evidence: The record for Child D contained documentation of a diagnosed food allergy to nuts. There was no allergy care plan on record for Child D. Plan of Correction: Not available online.
